I’m Dee and I offer counselling and psychotherapy to adults and young people aged 16+. I have a wide range of skills and experience which I integrate into my practice. I have 4 years of training in Transactional Analysis (TA) psychotherapy, as well as a Diploma in Mindfulness, diploma level training in Trauma Therapy and a range of creative skills. I have worked for various local organisations as a counsellor, including Headway and Redhill Counselling Centre.
My counselling approach is person-centred, which means I will listen to you empathically, respectfully and non-judgmentally. I will work with you to help you access your inner resources and support you in identifying patterns in your thoughts, feelings and behaviour. I believe that relationships themselves can be very healing, so the therapeutic relationship between myself and each of my clients is very important to me. I endeavour to create an equal ‘I’m OK/You’re OK’ relationship between us, so that you feel safe to explore what’s on your mind and empowered to make your own decisions about your future.
What is counselling and psychotherapy? Counselling and psychotherapy are both very effective ‘talking therapies’. Expressing what is on your mind, and telling someone how you are truly feeling in your heart, can be hugely beneficial and healing. Talking about how you feel can help to reduce the intensity of your feelings. Through counselling I will listen to you whole-heartedly, help you access the wisdom you already have and support you in coming to terms with your difficult life events. In offering psychotherapy, I can also help you explore familiar patterns of thoughts, feelings and behaviours and you will be able to make positive changes in your life. You can feel empowered to be the person you want to be – rather than the person you feel you ought to be, or have always been.
Who has counselling and psychotherapy? People from all walks of life seek counselling or psychotherapy and for various reasons. You may be feeling low, depressed, anxious, stressed or experiencing difficulty within your relationships. You may have experienced a significant trauma, bereavement or loss, or have lost your sense of self. Everyone is unique. Whatever your own personal reason, I can offer you a safe and confidential space to explore what’s going on for you.
Not sure whether to get in touch? I understand how daunted you may be feeling about reaching for support. I have been there and I understand. You may be wondering whether counselling is right for you, or whether we will be a good fit. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if this is the case. I offer a free initial session where we can meet with no obligation to continue. We can agree to work on a short or long-term basis, and usually this is weekly. If you do decide to continue, I usually suggest we see each other for 6 sessions to begin with and review from there.
Want to get in touch? Please use the ‘Contact Me’ page to arrange your free first session or call me on 07824 429775.
I look forward to hearing from you and supporting you on your personal journey.
